The Three-Week Scope Demand

Project ManagerIntermediate8–10 min

A customer portal modernization is 60% complete. Dana wants an AI analytics dashboard added for the board demonstration in three weeks, while initially holding the approved budget and launch date.

What you are being tested onProject-management judgment—not technical or analytics expertise. Use subject-matter experts for technical facts and estimates.

Known project facts

Budget & timing: $1.2M approved budget · launch baseline in 10 weeks · board demo in 3 weeks
Approved scope: Authentication and account access, service requests, and status tracking; AI analytics is not included
Team capacity: Eight-person cross-functional team at about 90% planned capacity; data engineer is 25% available
Dana’s request: Usage patterns, churn-risk indicators, and customer-service trends in the board demo
Open questions: Data readiness, security/privacy review, integration effort, and delivery estimate are not yet validated
Role boundary: You are not expected to design the analytics solution or supply technical estimates; obtain those inputs from qualified subject-matter experts
Your authority: Recommend options and a decision path; do not commit unapproved scope without an impact assessment and change decision
